The people of Cluj, urged to donate clothes to make a difference in a new ReClothing campaign

--

ReClothing is launching a new clothes collection campaign. From 10 to 19 May 2024, the initiative set out to collect over a TON of textile items in Cluj-Napoca, everything in an effort to raise awareness and reduce waste in the fashion field. The people of Cluj they are therefore encouraged to donate the pieces of clothing they no longer wear and to turn them into good deeds.

The collection point for clothes is on the 1st floor of Iulius Mall Cluj-Napoca and will be
available between May 10-19, giving the people of Cluj the opportunity to make a change
positive in the community and to help reduce the negative impact on the environment.

“Each item of clothing donated represents a gesture of generosity and responsibility towards the environment and towards our community. The clothes you donate go to ReClothing, where they either get a new chance at our charity fair, or become part of the upcycled micro-collections, or are donated to people in need,” says Ioana Pîrlea, the initiator of the ReClothing project.

The fashion industry is in the top 3 most polluting in the world. So that every article of
donated clothing is a small but essential step towards reducing the negative impact of this sector on our precious environment. Statistics show that an average European throws away 12 kilograms of textiles every year – a figure that is growing.

The clothes donated by the people of Cluj must be in good condition – that is, they must not be torn or stained.

“You haven’t worn an article of clothing in two seasons? Chances are you’ll still wear it
almost 0. Better to give it a new home and give it a chance to be appreciated and used by someone else.
Likewise, we may find clothes in our wardrobe that no longer match our style
life or are too small/large. We only wear a third of the clothes in the closet”, explains Ioana
Pîrlea.

Part of the amount of clothes collected will be sold in a special fair that will take place between May 21-23, also at Iulius Mall. Here, those interested will have the opportunity to find quality clothing at affordable prices, while supporting waste reduction and a social cause.

In the last 2 years, more than 5 tons of clothes have been saved within the ReClothing project.
The project was initially carried out within JCI Cluj, becoming independent in 2024.
