The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has announced the weather for the next period. The director of ANM, Elena Mateescu, says that summer temperatures come with precipitation.

ANM announces what the weather will be like in the next period

The general director of the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), Elena Mateescu, warned of the phenomena of increased atmospheric instability that come with the heat wave hitting the country, specifying that summer temperatures and heavy rains will be recorded in various regions.

According to his statements, recorded on Monday, the temperatures will exceed the specific threshold of a summer day, reaching up to 28 degrees Celsius, lower in the coastal areas and in the Prahova Valley. However, heat is accompanied by phenomena such as atmospheric instability.

“Yesterday and today, and tomorrow we will record temperatures that will exceed the threshold of a summer day (…). Today we count on values of up to 28 degrees, we already record values of 25 degrees in many areas in the west, south, southeast and east of the country, lower on the coast, 16 degrees, and in Prahova Valley, 15 -16 degrees. Unfortunately, the heat comes as a package (…) and with phenomena of accentuated atmospheric instability”, said Elena Mateescu on B1TV.

The weather will be characterized by atmospheric instability

Regarding the weather forecasts for the coming days, Mateescu warned that the phenomena of atmospheric instability will intensify especially in the areas of Maramureș, Transylvania, Moldova, northern Oltenia and Muntenia. These will be accompanied by showers and significant amounts of precipitation, which locally can exceed 15-20 liters per square meter, the ANM directorate also states.

“Today these phenomena will continue, especially in Maramureș, in Transylvania, in Moldova, but also in the north of Oltenia and Muntenia, starting this afternoon, it is possible to record showers again, amounts of precipitation that may exceed locally 15-20 l/m2. Tomorrow, against the background of the same very high temperature values, 27-28 degrees Celsius, the rains will also appear in the north-west, center and north-east of the country, with values that may exceed 35 deg. /mp”, added the general directorate of ANM.

In addition to heavy rain, gales are also possible, and wind gusts will intensify up to 50-60 km/h. In addition, high temperatures will be accompanied by rain even in areas where higher thermal values are recorded.

A significant cooling of the weather is forecast for the week ahead, with temperatures dropping by 10 to 20 degrees Celsius in some regions. Thus, temperatures of only 17-18 degrees Celsius are estimated in the capital, and between 16-17 degrees Celsius on the coast.

“It is also possible to record storms, because the gusty wind will have intensifications of 50-60 km/h, and, from Wednesday, during the second part of this week, we will gradually record a decrease in the temperature regime, with a difference between 10 and at most 20 degrees Celsius. Here is a significant difference. In the Capital only 17-18 degrees Celsius, and on the coast 16-17 degrees”, said Elena Mateescu.

The weather will get cold, according to the ANM forecast

Between May 6 and 19, 2024, ANM forecasts a cooling of the weather in most regions of the country, with maximum temperatures reaching 28 degrees Celsius in the second half of the interval. There will be prevailing rainfall across the country, especially during the specified time frames.

Banat will have maximum temperatures around 26 degrees in the first two days. They will drop to 19-20 degrees on May 9 and 10, then rise to 28 degrees after May 15.

In Crisana and Transylvania, temperatures will be similar, with a significant cooling in the middle of the period and a slight increase later.

In Moldova, the weather will cool sharply on May 8, then there will be a period with variable temperatures around 18-22 degrees, increasing towards the end of the interval.

In Dobrogea, temperatures of up to 24-25 degrees will be recorded after May 17. In Muntenia and Oltenia, temperatures of 18-19 degrees will be recorded on May 9 and 10, rising to 28 degrees after May 16.

In the mountains, maximum temperatures will range between 8 and 16 degrees, with extensive precipitation starting on May 7.
