Jaqueline Cristian reached the last round of the qualifications at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, our athlete defeating the American Hailey Baptiste in three sets, Monday, score 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Jaqueline Cristian, in the last round of the WTA Rome qualifications – Two match points saved

Ranked 106th in the world, Baptiste started the match much better: she won the first set 6-4 and led 3-0 in the second set.

Jaqueline (68 WTA) came back, saved two match points at 4-5 and won the set 7-5. The Romanian was then the better player in the decider and prevailed 6-3.

To know:

  • Cristian (main favorite in the qualifications) will duel for a place on the main draw with Varvara Gracheva (88 WTA). The athlete who chose to represent France clearly defeated the Italian Eleonora Alvisi (799 WTA), score 6-1, 6-1.
  • Jaqueline secured a prize worth 8,030 euros and 20 points in the WTA singles ranking.
