The House of Arts within the ASTRA Museum opens on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The new location in Piața Mare will be called the Center for Regional Activities and Resources (CARR) and will be dedicated to learning, promoting and selling Romanian art crafts.

The ASTRA Museum invites the people of Sibiu to the official opening of the Regional Activities and Resources Center at 12:00, at Casa Artelor, Piața Mică no. 20-21.

The House of Arts building was restored after a long rehabilitation process with the help of Norwegian funds.

Developed in partnership with Museene i Sør Trøndelag A/S – MiST (Norway) and Future Capital (Romania), within the Ro-Cultura program, financed by EEA Grants and implemented by the Project Management Unit of the Ministry of Culture, the project had as the main objective the restoration, refunctionalization and enhancement of the Casa Artelor in order to improve the management of the cultural heritage, the consolidation of cultural entrepreneurship and the functioning of the CARR

The new cultural center of Sibiu was inaugurated on April 25, during an official ceremony, and the general public will have access starting tomorrow.

“It is a very important day for the Astra Museum, an important day for the city of Sibiu and an important day for Romania. Together with our partner from Norway, Mussene I Sor Trondelag, this year we celebrate 15 years of cooperation, cooperation that has changed and developed the landscape of museum infrastructure in Romania. We started in 2009-2011, with a project that valued and helped the heritage to be conserved, stored and then valued, the next project aimed at the multiculturalism that is so common, but too little applied in Romania, and this project aims at the future development of heritage resources, material and immaterial,” said Ciprian Ștefan, director of the Astra Museum, at the time.

Thus, on the ground floor of the House of Arts, we find spaces for craft workshops where locals can also get involved, as well as a shop that valorizes the craftspeople’s products. On the first floor are the spaces for professional training courses in archaic trades, where the craftsmen’s skills will be certified. In the attic of Casa Artelor, the project includes an innovative exhibition, which combines heritage with the digital, about the crafts that shaped the Transylvanian cultural landscape.
