Pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk, luxury goods group LVMH and Dutch semiconductor player ASML are the most valuable companies in Europe, according to a Visual Capitalist analysis, which mapped the most valuable corporations in 11 major EU economies , based on their market capitalization on April 15, 2024.

Figures are in USD and are from Companiesmarketcap.com.

Novo Nordisk is currently worth more than $550 billion, making it the most valuable company in Europe. The pharmaceutical giant specializes in diabetes and weight loss drugs. Demand for two of these, Ozempic and Wegovy, has skyrocketed due to their weight-loss capabilities, even causing nationwide shortages in the United States.

Next in the ranking are the luxury goods industry group LVMH from France and the semiconductor manufacturer ASML (Netherlands).

Romania is only in the second half of the ranking, actually in 5th place, from the bottom, the largest listed company being Hidroelectrica.

The listing of the largest state energy company – Hidroelectrica – on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) was the event of 2023 on the Romanian capital market, becoming the largest offer in Europe and the third largest in the world. The initial public offering (IPO) of Hidroelectrica attracted almost two billion euros, while the capitalization of the local market exceeded 40 billion euros, being considered the third largest market in central and eastern Europe.
