The first cherries have ripened in Alba Iulia, after weeks of sun and heat, especially the first two weeks from the beginning of April. Moreover, they also appeared in the market, the price of one kilogram being 40-50 lei.

The sunny and warm weather of the past few months has helped the cherries to ripen much faster this year. As a rule, in other years, the cherries were made only in June, but in 2024, thanks to the favorable weather, the cherries ripened much faster. In some trees in Alba Iulia, the cherries are already ready to eat.

Cherries have already appeared for sale in the Alba Iulia market. For example, a trader from Micești sells a kilogram for 40 lei, a 500-gram casserole costs 20 lei. These cherries come from a 10-year-old cherry tree.

Another trader in the Alba Iulia market sells cherries brought from export, more precisely from Greece, with a price of 50 lei per kilogram.

In recent years cherries have had some very high prices, being almost considered “luxury” products. Their exorbitant price is largely due to the short season in which they can be traded.

The good weather this year made the cherries ripen faster than in other years.
