A mega-project of 56 million euros was submitted by Oradea City Hall…

--

A mega-project, worth almost 56 million euros, was submitted for European financing by Oradea City Hall this week, Tuesday.

“The Biggest Project”

The foreseen amount, 279 million lei, represents a record for the municipality, in the current European financial cycle on the mobility axis.

“It is the largest project among those submitted by Oradea in the current European financial cycle on the mobility axis”, he declared for Bihor the deputy director of the European Funded Projects Management Directorate, Ovidiu Guler.

From the total amount, the municipality intends to attract, through the North-West Regional Program 2021 – 2027, European funding of 144.7 million lei, i.e. approximately 29 million euros.

“This is the maximum non-refundable amount that can be accessed through the project,” Guler said.

The difference in money is to be covered from the local budget.

“Out of the total value of almost 279 million lei, the city’s contribution will be about 80 million lei, representing almost 30%”, said the deputy director of DMPFI.

Three in one!

The high value of the project is due to the fact that, although it has pre-allocated funds on this financing axis, in order to maximize its score in the evaluation process, the municipality of Oradea has combined three large works on the mobility axis in a single investment.

“We brought in a single project investments aimed at public transport, with trams and buses, as well as the individual one, by setting up a bicycle path”, explained Guler.

Thus, the project aims to rehabilitate the tram depot in Atelieror street, the construction of a new bus depot for OTL (photo below) and the construction of a bike path that connects the 22 Decembrie Park area with the entrance to the Grigorescu neighborhood.

Depot, bus station, bike path…

As the Bihor he also wrote, the municipality of Oradea is going to rebuild from the ground up, in another area of the city, the depot in Atelierel street, built in 1983.

Among other things, a new hall will be fitted out (photo below) where repairs and overhauls of the trams will be made, a canopy will be built under which the linings will be parked so that they no longer have to be de-iced in the winter before leaving the route, the running track and all the carriages will be modernized.

Unlike the tram depot, which is being modernized on site, the OTL bus depot in Atelierel street will be decommissioned and moved to the Industrial Park in Ogorului street. Most likely, the current site will be put up for auction and made available to real estate developers considering the proximity of the Ceyrat and Nufărul neighborhoods.

According to the project, the new bus station (photo below) it will have two buildings with one floor each, with the functions of administrative headquarters and bus repair workshop, a fueling station and two canopies.

Of these, the first canopy will house classic buses, and the second one, intended for electric kits, will be equipped with charging stations.

The repair hall will have seven bus lines and will include, among other things, workshops, changing rooms, sanitary facilities, and the first floor will have offices, an office, an archive and a conference room.

Regarding the bike path provided in the project (map below) it will have a length of about one kilometer and a width of about 2.5 meters.

The future development will have to connect the existing bike lane in the area of the passage from the entrance to the Grigorescu district, in the roundabout at the intersection of Rapsodiei and Thurzo Sandor streets, with the one on Făgăraşului street and the bike lane in the 22 Decembrie Park area.

To be done in 2025…

Considering the scale, the investment could be implemented only next year.

“After the financing of the project will be approved, the evaluation of which may take several months, the tender for the execution of the technical projects will be organized”, explained the deputy director of DMPFI, Ovidiu Guler.

The actual works will be auctioned later. “Depending on the date on which the technical projects will be obtained, the actual execution of the works will be tendered somewhere in the first half of next year”, said the representative of the municipality.

If all goes well, actual work could begin in the second half of 2025 at the earliest.
