A video clip in which two people appear setting fire to the holy book of Islam was broadcast live on the TikTok platform.

A Palestinian flag was burned during the action that took place in the center of the city of Malmö, not far from the two venues where the Eurovision contest will take place.

Swedish police have been criticized for allowing the burning of the Koran so close to where an important event will take place.

The burning of the Koran in Denmark and Sweden last year led to angry reactions and sometimes violent protests in Muslim-majority countries, but in Sweden such actions fall under freedom of expression legislation and are legal.

For a week starting Saturday, numerous concerts and parties will take place in the southern Swedish city, culminating in the grand finale on May 11.

Several protests have been announced at Eurovision

A total of over 100,000 visitors are expected in Malmö for next week’s festivities.

In addition to musical events, several protest actions related to the war in Gaza have been announced, both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli demonstrations.

On Thursday, Israel’s National Security Council tightened travel warnings for the Swedish city, with Israelis planning a visit to Malmö being advised to reconsider their plans.

Swedish artists have called for Israel to be excluded from Eurovision as a result of the war in Gaza. The organizers rejected this request.

Even though Israel is not a European country, it is allowed to participate in Eurovision because Israel’s public broadcaster is a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

The Eurovision Song Contest is the biggest music show in the world.

After the victory of the Swedish singer Loreen last year, the contest takes place in Sweden this year.

On May 7 and 9, the semi-finals will take place in which 11 of the 37 participating countries will be eliminated, and the representatives of 26 countries will participate in the final.
