Three and a half years after his conviction and flight from Romania, Prince Paul resumed his fight for the royal lands that he claims belong to his family. He sued the management of Suceava county on the grounds that they would not return his inheritance. As early as 2007, he tried to take possession of almost 40,000 hectares of forest.

Just weeks later, he was captured at a luxury resort in Malta, where he was holidaying with his wife, Lia. Immediately after his capture, the Knights of Malta said they did not even know the prince: “Prince Paul is not a member of our order and has never been invited to any of our events.” Images posted on social media contradict them.

Just a few hours before his arrest, Paul of Romania appeared in a photo dressed in the outfit of the Knights of Malta. Next to him is Princess Lia, crowned and with a golden crucifix around her neck.

The photo was posted by an Italian, with the description “A very interesting evening in Malta with my sister and the new Grand Master of the Knight of Malta”, referring to Paul of Romania.

The Italian’s sister, named Mara, also appears in many such photos at Knights of Malta events. She is also the one who made the first post about Paul of Romania, announcing his presence at the great event, saying: “Preparation for the Great Ceremony with Prince Paul.”

Prince Paul remains in custody until May 9, when the Romanian state hopes to obtain his extradition to serve his sentence.
