To discover exhibitions, to visit the spaces of the Mureș County Museum, previewed at Noaptea Muzeelor2024 at www.radiomures.ro.

Walks and Stories at the Museum, next stop: Department of Natural Sciences.

The valuable collections of Department of Natural Sciences are housed in a superb heritage building built in 1893, on Horea street no. 24, the former headquarters of the Szechusian Industrial Art Museum.

More than 60,000 pieces from the collections of: mineralogy, plants, paleontology, trophies, etc. can be found either in permanent or temporary exhibitions or in the warehouses of the Section, recently rehabilitated.

The preview walk at Night of Museums gave me the opportunity to meet the researchers and curators of the main “must-see” exhibitions at the Department of Natural Sciences: biologist Daniela Botoș, coordinator of the Department, researcher Mihaela Sămărghițan and paleontologist Alexandru Solomon, who told me the fabulous story of the already famous “Magyarosaurus dacus”, discovered by Baron Nopcsa, along with a biography worthy of Indiana Jones and an exotic theory about island dwarfism.

Rare exhibits, the recently opened exhibition “The Last Dinosaurs of Transylvania”, made in collaboration with the University “Babeș-Bolyai” Cluj-Napoca, through the University Cultural Heritage Directorate and the Laboratory of Paleotheriology and Quaternary Geology – STAR Institute, the sensory garden and the plant greenhouse exotics, or the already star exhibit: the woolly rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis), unique in Romania, can be irresistible points of attraction for the tour in NoapteaMuzeelor 24024.

The basic exhibition of the Natural Sciences Section contains 9 exhibition sectors: Paleontology Sector, Mineralogy and Petrology Sector, Biodiversity Sector, Ecosystems Sector, Hunting Sector, Mold Cave Sector, Protected Species Sector, Marine Ecosystem Sector, Terrestrial Exotic Species Sector.”

You will discover multiple facets of the human-nature-science relationship if you follow the route proposed by the biologist Daniela Botoș or you will meticulously delve into the professional presentation of ecosystems by Mihaela Sămărghițan. You will be able to listen to them in a special edition “Grafitti” on Radio Tg.Mureș www.radiomures.ro, on Saturday, May 4, from 14.00 and Sunday, May 5, from the same time, in replay.

The “Night of the Museums” event will take place on Saturday, May 18, starting at 10:00 a.m. and will enliven all the spaces of the Mureș County Museum and its partners, until after midnight.
