A Romanian teenager who foiled a crime will be decorated by the president of the Italian Republic / He involuntarily listened to a telephone conversation and alerted the police

Emanuele will not give interviews: he is a minor and is behind an unprecedented event.

“We are very happy: initially we thought it was a joke, a farce, then we talked to the Secretariat of the Quirinale Palace: the recognition will be handed out on May 13 and for us, for my son, it is a great honor and we are proud”.

Ramona Rosemari Lascu expresses her joy for the recognition of “Alfiere della repubblica” (Bearer of the Republic’s standard) attributed to her son, Emanuele Nicola Affaticati, who is not yet 16 years old, is a resident of the town of Fiorenzuola D’Arda, in the area of ​​Piacenza, who, in December 2022, foiled the plan of a man who intended to kill his ex-partner.

That day, returning from school on a regional train, the boy involuntarily listened to the phone conversation of another passenger who kept repeating in Romanian that he was going to his ex-girlfriend to kill her. Knowing the language and understanding the content of the call, Emanuele realized the seriousness of the situation and alerted the police, which led to the man’s arrest.

The story, continues the young Alfiere’s mother, “dates from a year and a half ago and is not very recent: the boy heard this conversation, he was convinced of what he had heard: the police did their duty, in fact they were the first to intervene and he should get a medal because it was an attempted murder.”

For Emanuele, the sense of duty was instilled in his family. “My father is a Marine colonel in Romania” – Mrs. Lascu recounts. “I grew up, and my son was also raised a little like us daughters, having as a point of reference the figure of a very good father, of an officer.”

The recognition conferred by the President of the Republic “is a great honor for my son, when we received the invitation, we were so emotional that we sat down: it is a very nice recognition and we received it with pride. Now I told him that he must go forward without believing who knows who, it was a normal gesture” – comments Emanuele’s mother.
