The first cases of swine fever were registered a few days ago in the town of Negreni, a village belonging to the town of Scornicesti in Olt county, immediately after the owners of a farm noticed that their animals were dying.

The owners of the farm notified the Veterinary Sanitary Directorate, and several veterinarians went there for checks.

After more samples were collected, they made the decision to slaughter 11,500 animals from this farm.

Actions have also been taken in the surrounding areas. In the fairs in Scornicesti, the decision was made not to sell pigs anymore, and all the nearby areas are monitored by DSV Olt.

Since 2017, since the first outbreaks of swine fever were discovered, Romanians are consuming less and less meat from households. And farmers raise fewer and fewer pigs, due to fears that the animals could get sick, according to digi24.ro
