The suspicion appeared in the pig farm in the village of Negreni, which belongs to the city of Scornicești, a few days ago, and was then confirmed by the Bucharest Animal Health and Diagnostic Institute, notes Gazeta Oltului.

A protection zone was demarcated, within a radius of 3 km around the outbreak, but also a surveillance zone, within a radius of 10 km. Several localities and hunting funds are under restrictions.

The authorities have decided to slaughter more than 11,400 pigs, and the owners will be compensated by the state.

The materials from the farm premises were also destroyed, and the sale of live pigs or pork products from the restricted areas is prohibited, announces the Olt Veterinary Directorate, stating that the disease does not affect humans.

The farm, with a production capacity of more than 600,000 pigs, also faced African swine fever in 2021.
