Mircea Geoană, the current deputy general secretary of NATO, would win the largest number of votes of Moldovans from the Republic of Moldova who also hold Romanian citizenship, according to a new survey conducted by the company iData and cited by Deschide.md.

Geoana would be supported by 15% of Moldovans with Romanian citizenship, being followed, at a considerable distance, by the mayor of sector 5, Cristian Popescu Piedone, with 6.1%. The third in the list of preferences is the former prime minister Dacian Cioloș, who would collect 5.5% of the votes.

According to the cited source, the survey was conducted between April 22-26 on a sample of 1006 respondents. The margin of error is plus/minus 3%.

Thus, the top preferences of Moldovans with Romanian citizenship would be:

  • Mircea Geoana – 15%
  • Cristian Popescu Walking – 6.1%
  • Dacian Cioloș – 5.5%
  • Diana Sosoacă – 4.8%
  • Nicolae Ciucă – 3.4%

  • George Simion – 2.4%
  • Dan Barna – 1.4%
  • Hunor Kelemen – 1%
  • Cătălin Drula – 0.7%
  • None of the above – 15%
