“We will provide everything that means infrastructure, we will have a boarding school, we will have classrooms, we will have a gym, absolutely everything that is needed for an educational institution. From my point of view, it is an honor for us and we are proud that the Polytechnic has confidence in this city. (…) Slatina will have a university campus in the true sense of the word”, explained mayor Emil Moț.

The President of the Olt County Council, Marius Oprescu, pointed out the importance of establishing a branch of the Politehnica University of Bucharest, in the context where Slatina has a highly developed industrial platform, which needs a highly qualified workforce.

“An important event for education in Olt county, especially for young people from Slatina who are in their final years and not only, because once this project is launched, it will last in Slatina and, at the same time, I think it is also important for employers from the industrial platform in Slatina, one of the most developed in Romania. (…) I think that the opening of this branch will be something that will bring many benefits to the local community, we make sure that the young people of Slatina and Olt county will have access to a prestigious educational institution, without having to leave Slatina”, said the president CJ Olt.

There will be discussions with employers on the industrial platform regarding the specializations they need, so that the Politehnica University of Bucharest can structure its education plan and know what offer it will come with in the near future and in the medium term.

“I am convinced that from the future graduates of the Polytechnic – Slatina branch we will have the future engineers on the industrial platform”, he added.

The rector of the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Mihnea Costoiu, mentioned that employers in the region are facing a crisis of qualified labor and that, at the same time, there are families with low incomes, and some of the high school graduates with a baccalaureate diploma do not pursue higher education studies.

“It is certain that we are also facing a labor force crisis in the region. The overwhelming majority of employers insistently request labor force in several fields, not only in engineering, generically speaking, but also in specific engineering, in specific specific fields. We believe it is our moral and professional duty to meet young people, who would have an extra chance through our presence in Slatina. Also, beyond the labor crisis, it is a reality that there are still quite a few families with low incomes in the region and (…), statistically, a significant number of graduates with a baccalaureate degree do not pursue higher education in a classical education center. And, in this context, we want to offer an education here that will have in addition one extremely important thing, namely a quality education”, emphasized Mihnea Costoiu.

The rector showed that the institution has budgeted investments for the Slatina campus, but also aims to access European funds for the development of this center.

The general school inspector of the Olt County School Inspectorate, Adrian Bărbulete, expressed his belief that the existence of a branch of the Polytechnic in Slatina will help young people complete their studies and be able to work in the municipality.

“In Slatina there will be this branch of a prestigious university and I am convinced that our young people, future high school graduates, will find the finality of their studies in Slatina. It is the first important thing, after finishing high school, to create the possibility for these young people to stay at home and let’s determine them to remain employed on the industrial platform of Slatina, because that means nothing but development – both intellectual and economic”, concluded Bărbulete.
