--

The students from the Sibiu County batch, participants in the national phase of the Constanța Geography Olympiad, returned home with four prizes. Also, Sibiu has two qualified students at the European Geography Olympiad in Belgrade. It is about the brothers Marius and Paul Țiplic.

The National Geography Olympiad took place in Constanța, between April 25 and 30. From Sibiu County, seven students participated from the “Constantin Ioan Motaș” Mediaș Secondary School (Adelina Ioana Inache – 8th grade), the “Gheorghe Lazăr” National College Sibiu (Paul Ioan and Andrei MariusȚiplic – 9th grade), “Axente Sever” Theoretical High School Mediaș (Ștefan Ovidiu Pop – 10th grade), “Octavian Goga” National College Sibiu (Daniela Elena Petcu – 11th grade and Iris Alexia Petcu – 12th grade) and “Samuel von Brukenthal” Sibiu (Robert Ștefan Seiceanu – 12th grade).

After the two tests (theoretical and practical) the student Paul Ioan Țiplic obtained the III prize (out of 68 participating students), with an average of 94.63 points (70.13 points – theoretical test and 24.50 points – practical test).

Students Adelina Ioana Inache (53rd place out of 72 participants), Andrei Mariu Țiplic (29th place out of 68 participants) and Ștefan Ovidiu Pop (36th place out of 71 participants) obtained the Special Award of the Romanian Geographical Society for a score of at least 80 points obtained at this Olympiad.

Paul and Andrei Țiplic also participated in the play-offs for the groups that will go to the international phases of the Geography Olympiad, both qualifying for the junior group that will participate in the European Geography Olympiad in Belgrade. The two are twins and students of the “Gheorghe Lazar” National College.

The two brothers had extraordinary results in the past years as well. Last year, for example, Marius lost his place at the Geography Olympiad, and Paul qualified for Balkaniadă. You can read the whole story of the two brothers in the material: “The twin brother gave way to him and Paul qualified for the Geography Balkaniad. It is a first for Sibiu.”

The Sibiu team was accompanied by Prof. Ioana Hudea, from the “Axente Sever” Mediaș Theoretical High School, and the school inspector Prof. Dincă Constantin was part of the National Commission of the Olympiad.
