Poland has chosen the name that the F-35 aircraft will bear. Images from the US of the first Polish F-35, almost completed, have also been released

--

This is how the Poles will christen their F-35: HUSSARS. F-35 Husarz is translated into Romanian F-35 Hussar.

Hussars were light cavalry soldiers in the Middle Ages, especially under the Hungarians and Poles.

The announcement was made by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Poland itself, following an open vote.

“Friends of aviation, we are happy to announce that the Polish F-35 fighter jet now has an official name: Husarz! Thank you all for your vote and involvement in choosing the name of the plane,” the Polish General Staff sent on the X network – formerly Twitter.

The Americans have also published the first images of a Polish F-35 under construction

American giant Lockheed Martin has published images of a Polish F-35, the first such Polish aircraft, under construction.

The Polish publication Defence24 notes that this is the first time the plane appears on wheels. The plane is in the final stages of manufacturing at a Lockheed Martin facility in Fort Worth, Texas. The plane will be delivered this year.

Poland’s 48 F-16s were also produced in Texas.

F-35, another common denominator between Poland and Romania. Both countries bought the same number of aircraft

Poland purchased 32 F-35As in January 2020. According to the published timetable, the first F-35s for Poland will be delivered to the Polish Air Force in 2024, and deliveries will continue until 2030.

However, the first Polish F-35s will actually arrive in Poland, at the Lask Air Base, only in 2026, and Warsaw is trying to accelerate these delivery dates.

As far as Romania is concerned, at the beginning of August 2023, the Ministry of Defense sent to the Romanian Parliament the request for approval for the purchase in the initial stage of 32 V-generation multi-role combat aircraft of the F-35 type. The estimated cost of the program is 6.5 billion dollars, excluding VAT.

In total, Romania intends to acquire three F-35 squadrons. Where these will be deployed is premature to discuss, but almost certainly in Borcea, Mihail Kogălniceanu (MK) and Câmpia Turzii.
