One of Romania’s big cities will have the first ecological cemetery in the country. It will cover 10,000 square meters.

Located near three other existing cemeteries in a large city in Romania, the first ecological cemetery in Romania will include not only burial sites, but also a mortuary chapel and the corresponding fences.

The plan belongs to a private investor who submitted a request to Brașov City Hall. The area intended for the ecological cemetery will be approximately 10,000 square meters, located behind one of the cemeteries in the Micșunica area, the first in order from the Energetic High School.

The ecological cemetery will impose strict rules regarding the materials used for coffins and urns. They must be biodegradable and made from recycled materials. Also, the burial sites will not be sold, but leased for a period of 25 years.

Urns used for cremated ashes must also be biodegradable. This initiative is inspired by oriental culture, where cremation and ecological practices are widespread.

The concept of a biodegradable urn, which offers a rebirth of life by planting a tree from human remains, is increasingly popular in these cultures. The Bios Urn, for example, combines death with natural regeneration, allowing a part of life to continue in a new form, according to adevarul.ro.
