The 42 residents of Slănic, Prahova County, who were evacuated after a section of 23 August Street collapsed, will not be able to return to their apartments, as the blocks were damaged. Specialists show that the collapse of the street was not caused by natural causes, but by human action.

The Prefect of Prahova, Emil Dragănescu, launched a harsh attack on the Prahova County Council, accusing the liberals in the leadership of being absent, as they usually do, from the meetings of the County Committee for Emergency Situations and not sending anyone to Slănic, where the CJ carried out an extensive work of introducing the gas network.

“Unfortunately, people will not return home. The preliminary reports ask the local public authorities to carry out extensive studies, to carry out intervention works and only after that for people to return home. At the moment we are facing some subsidence phenomena that also affect the blocks, we do not know how far they will advance, we do not know if they were before this surprise or if they appeared during it, but it is certain that the evacuated blocks cannot be repopulated at the time of face”, declared, on Tuesday evening, the prefect of Prahova county, Emil Drăgănescu.

He presented the conclusions of the specialists who made checks in Slănic, where the 23 August street collapsed, and these reports prove that these phenomena “were not produced by earthquakes, nor by large natural phenomena that took place in depth, nor did they a direct connection to the salt vein which is very close to that area”.

(…) I am referring to several types of works, but the main works that have been carried out in the area recently are those works for the gas network which unfortunately pass exactly above these surprises, now below and for which the City Hall notified the County Council in several places to order their repair”, announces the prefect.

He specified that it refers to “absolutely all” the works that have been carried out in the area.

Regarding funds for the resettlement of evacuated people, the prefect criticized the County Council on the grounds that on Tuesday, on political criteria, it allocated funds to the town halls, ignoring the request from the city of Slănic, led by a PSD mayor. In this context, the prefect assured that the Government will support the authorities in Slănic.

“It was a priority for this meeting to take place here (at the headquarters of Prahova Prefecture and Prahova County Council – no) for the simple reason that, I don’t know how many times, when it comes to a crucial decision for Prahova County, a decision of The County Committee for Emergency Situations, the vice-president of this committee is missing. If until now Mr. Iulian Dumitrescu, the suspended president of the Prahova County Council, chose not to come to the countless meetings of the County Committee, I see that his replacements also choose not to come. Therefore, the chairman of the Committee, the prefect and the other members are again left alone to decide on some impact measures for the entire population.
