  • The President of the Tulcea County Council, Horia Teodorescu, received, today, the visit of the ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Romania, HE Massimo Baggi. The prefect of Tulcea county, Alexandru Dan Munteanu, and the public administrator of Tulcea municipality, Nicolae Bibu, also participated in the official meeting.

During the meeting, Tulcea county officials spoke about the potential of Tulcea county, but also about the possibility of accessing the necessary funds for a series of investments in Tulcea county.

Thus, the president of the Tulcea County Council, Horia Teodorescu, thanked the representative of the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation in Romania for the projects carried out at the level of Tulcea county, among which there are also three medico-social community centers from Luncavița, Maliuc and Beștepe, financed as part of the first Swiss contribution .

In this context, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Romania, HE Massimo Baggi, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two states and insisted on opening a new financing line available for Romania:

“I came to Tulcea county for three reasons: because I was told that it is the most beautiful county in Romania, because Tulcea county is more and more strategically important for Romania and for Europe, but also because Tulcea is a successful model in terms of the implementation of projects financed under the Swiss contribution”.

Thus, Massimo Baggi mentioned the first Swiss contribution, worth 1 billion euros (for 10 European Union states) and added the fact that the Swiss Parliament approved a second similar contribution, also worth 1 billion euros (for the same number of states).

If at the level of the first financing mechanism for some investments in Romania, the amount allocated to our state was 180 million euros, for this second contribution the amount allocated is 220 million euros (to which is added a co-financing from Romania, in the amount of 15-40%), the total value of investments to reach 250 million euros.

Moreover, the Swiss Ambassador to Romania explained, at the governmental level the decision was made that more than half of this amount would be invested outside Bucharest, so that the counties could be beneficiaries of some particularly important projects in areas such as health, energy efficiency, infrastructure, etc.

“The difference between the first investment mechanism and the current one is that now the programs will be managed at the level of Romania. More precisely, you propose the projects, you implement them and pay them, and we reimburse the amounts”, explained ES Massimo Baggi, insisting that Tulcea County make efforts to access these amounts available for Romania.

“I want to assure you that our county will be among the territorial administrative units that will request investments within the programs proposed by you. As far as I understand, we are talking about an action similar to accessing funds for projects, and here we can tell you that we are a county with great experience in the field. I guarantee you that we will do everything possible so that we can access the funds made available to Romania in this context”, President Horia Teodorescu said.
