In the last week of April, the veterinary health inspectors controlled more than 3,200 units of the food industry, located in leisure areas and localities of tourist interest, the amount of fines applied exceeded 2.2 million lei, informs the National Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA).

“In the period 23 – 30.04.2024, ANSVSA ordered specific actions for the period leading up to May 1, by intensifying official controls and the measures that must be applied to prevent food poisoning. The purpose of the action was to protect the health of consumers, in the context of a large influx of tourists and increasing the turnover of food industry units in leisure areas and localities of tourist interest. The action, carried out by ANSVSA at the national level, was carried out by checking 3,211 authorized or registered sanitary and food safety objectives”. it is specified in the authority’s statement.

The deviations found by ANSVSA inspectors were sanctioned by the application of 308 contravention fines, which totaled 2,261,800 lei.

At the same time, 7 activity suspension orders, 7 activity ban orders were issued and the official detention/seizure measure was ordered for a quantity of 721 kg of food products, products that presented a potential risk to consumers’ health.

According to the cited source, during the mentioned period, the ANSVSA inspectors’ controls covered: 997 restaurants, 64 pizzerias, 25 canteens, 102 confectioneries-patisseries, 258 confectionery/pastry laboratories, 128 tourist boarding houses, 305 hypermarket units /supermarket, 850 food stores, 231 mobile food sales units, 227 fairs – food product exhibitions and 24 local gastronomic points.

In order to prevent the occurrence of food poisoning and protect the health of consumers, veterinary health and food safety inspectors controlled the hygienic conditions in which various types of food products and culinary preparations intended for human consumption are received, stored, prepared and used.

“The main non-conformities found were: non-compliance with veterinary sanitary rules regarding the storage, maintenance of premises, work equipment and the use of utensils and containers in an unsanitary condition, packaging, improper labeling, the exposure for sale of food products without a label, the use of unauthorized/veterinary sanitary registered premises , failure to demonstrate the traceability of food products”, the statement also states.

ANSVSA recommends all consumers to purchase food products only from units or premises under sanitary-veterinary control.
