Salvamont Romania has sent before the May 1st mini-holiday and the Easter holidays, ten essential rules for a safe hike in the mountains.

Considering the increase in the number of tourists during this period, determined by the mini-holiday on May 1 and Easter, Salvamont Romania recommends ten essential rules for a safe hike on the mountain.

The ten rules, according to mountain rescuers, are:

Checking the weather forecast: Before you leave, check the weather forecast to make sure conditions are favorable for hiking. In spring, the weather can be unpredictable, so it’s crucial to be prepared for rapid changes.

Appropriate equipment: Make sure you have the right footwear and clothing for the mountain. Layers of clothing are recommended so you can adapt to temperature changes. Also, don’t forget the lighting source and spare batteries for your phone and flashlight.

Route planning: Choose a route according to your level of experience and find out about its duration, difficulty and peculiarities.

The survival kit: Always have a first aid kit, maps, compass, water, food, flashlight and an emergency whistle with you.

Information about fauna and flora: Knowing the species of animals and plants you may encounter on the trail as it can help you avoid potential dangers.

Respect for nature: Keep the trail clean, don’t leave litter and don’t damage the natural habitat.

Communicating plans: Inform SALVAMONT structures or someone close to you about your route and estimated time of return.

Conscious Browsing: Use maps and dedicated navigation devices to avoid getting lost, especially in unfamiliar or poorly signposted areas.

Hydration and nutrition: Make sure you have enough water and energizing food to support the physical effort.

Adaptability: Be prepared to adjust your plans based on weather conditions or your own energy and health levels.
