Thieves set their eyes on the points where parcels are delivered. Armed with a crowbar they came to strike. But the police turned their plans upside down. After following them for eight months, they caught them while they were acting in Timisoara.

Iulia Pop, Observer reporter: The three thieves were not even impressed by the surveillance cameras. They knew very well that the area was under video surveillance. They had 11 phones to pick up from these places and they used buzzers. The marks are still visible, to open the drawers. This time they were being chased by the police, who caught them in the act, but two of them managed to escape.

Shortly after, the other two thieves were found. One was hiding in a town in Timiş, another in Alba.

The criminals operated in several localities in the west of the country, but also in the capital. They generally hunted for expensive appliances and mobile phones. They also used other methods of robbery. For example, they placed orders online and chose to pay cash on delivery when picking up the parcels. After the expiration of the 36-hour storage period, they hacked the computer application intended for couriers and by generating QR codes, unlocked the lockers and left with the parcels.

Because they found themselves among the injured, more and more customers now take out insurance.

Contacted by the Observer, the courier company assures that: “If we detect such a situation, we follow all the legal procedures in force in order to solve it. In each of these cases, we collaborate closely with the authorities who do the necessary investigations to clarify the situations that have arisen. The security systems we have help us to solve any such situation effectively without affecting customers.”

In Romania there are over 4000 easyboxes of different companies.
