On the Holy and Great Tuesday of Passion Week, April 30, 2024, the Most Reverend Father Andrei, Archbishop of Vad, Feleac and Cluj and Metropolitan of Cluj, Maramureș and Sălaj, met with the needy people on the record of the Social-Philanthropic and Missionary Sector of the Diocese, among which are the Roma from the communities of Pata Rât and Turda.

Thus, in the courtyard of the Diocesan Center in Avram Iancu Square, from 12:00 p.m., His Holiness Father Andrei addressed those present with a spiritual word, blessed them and offered them 400 packages of non-perishable food for the Easter holidays. In total, more than 700 packages have been prepared, with the others to be distributed in the coming days.

The gifts offered were purchased by the “Orthodox Philanthropy” and “Christiana” Associations from Cluj-Napoca, under the patronage of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj.

A group of student volunteers from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, as well as a team of four gendarmes from the “Ștefan Cicio-Pop” Mobile Gendarme Group in Cluj-Napoca, helped to distribute the packages.

During the big holidays over the year, the Archdiocese of Cluj always offers substantial packages, with non-perishable food and hygiene products. Also, every week, through the Social-Philanthropic Sector, they give aid (food packages and financial support) to people in difficult situations.

The social-philanthropic action is handled by the social-missionary advisor of the Archdiocese of Cluj, Iustin Liciniu Câmpean, together with the social inspector Carmen Bârsan and the social assistant Adela Timar, from the Social-Philanthropic and Missionary Sector of the Diocese.

Currently, the Archdiocese of Cluj has 62 projects and social programs, which provide shelter, food, clothing, medicines, medical and palliative care, education for children and young people, ease the suffering of the sick and give hope where there is none. Thus, according to last year’s data, the total sum of 28,130,305 lei was spent for philanthropic purposes through religious units, associations and diocesan foundations, which benefited 18,396 people, including a significant number of Roma people .
