Platoon Major Raul Oltean, operative non-commissioned officer at the 1st Cluj-Napoca Fire Department, took 4th place at the international Rescue Great Day competition, held in Spain. The non-commissioned officer is part of the representative group of intervention climbers within the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.

Between April 25-28, the Romanians competed in Seville with teams of climbing firefighters from 35 countries. In the end, our compatriots were among the best, being close to the podium, with a total of 1334.89 points. The competition was won by a team from Sweden.

“Climbing emergency firefighters had to go through several tests with different scenarios, such as rescue, recovery and evacuation of victims or animals from a natural environment (dam, spillway and rock face) and from large structures and charismatic buildings of the city. The Romanian team included 11 military personnel, from ISU Bucharest-Ilfov, ISU Alba, ISU Botoșani, ISU Brașov, ISU Cluj, ISU Hunedoara, ISU Mureș and ISU Timiș.

Our colleague became an intervention climber in 2022. In a short time he also became a member of the Rope Rescue Romania team, participating last year in two other international competitions, the UKRO Rescue Festival (Great Britain) and Grimpday (France), respectively.” transmits ISU Cluj.
