Projectile found by a police officer

A chief police officer from the Transport Police Directorate, Giurgiu County Service found, this morning, a projectile. He was patrolling in the area of responsibility when he noticed the object on the bank of the Danube, within the Free Zone. The officer realized it was ammunition and called for ISU support.
At the scene, the pyrotechnicians found that it was an 88 mm piercing projectile. It was lifted and transported to safety, to be destroyed. A police crew was also present at the scene.
We remind you that since the beginning of the year, three explosive projectiles of 75 and 100 mm caliber and one explosive tracer projectile of 37 mm caliber were found in the towns of Vedea, Mihăilești, Băneasa and Vlad Țepeș.
In 2023, 37 munitions and ammunition elements were found within Giurgiu county, being explosive, armor-piercing projectiles, thrower bombs, defensive grenades, infantry cartridges, etc.

Preventive information
Unexploded ordnance is very dangerous and that’s why people need to know what to do when they find metal objects that look like projectiles, grenades, bombs, cartridges or the like.
First, they must not touch or hit them, whether they are partially buried in the ground or on the surface. They don’t have to pick them up because they have no way of knowing what stage they are in. If they are not sure what kind of objects they are, they should not cut them or use them to improvise tools or ornaments.
Out of curiosity, some people might be tempted to disassemble the warheads or other components, and this is prohibited because such an action can cause explosions.
All citizens have to do is to call the emergency number 112 if they discover cylindrical or other shaped metal objects that are suspected to be elements of unexploded ammunition.
