Miroslav Popov continues on the bench of the vice-champion FCC UAV Arad, Urban is also working on the team of players for the new season!

6 days ago, CSM CSU Constanța won the first title in the club’s history in match number three with FCC UAV Arad, held right in the “Victoria” Sports Hall. As two years ago, the “yellow-blue” group exceeded their condition by defeating one of the teams with a higher net budget in the semifinals, but the fight for the trophy was lost. In 2022, CSM Satu Mare was eliminated and the gold medals went to Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe, who now had to settle for bronze precisely because FCC UAV Arad eliminated them in the semifinals.

Then, as now, the management of the group from Mureș continued to be on the technical bench. Bogdan Bulj trained the team for one more season for a 3rd place won in a big fight with Rapidul, so in the summer of 2023 he opted for another Serbian coach. Miroslav Popov, in turn, became national runner-up with the girls of FCC UAV Arad and on Monday extended his deal for at least one more season with the club. “The verbal understanding existed for some time, but today I also signed the documents. Miroslav Popov is the one in whom we put all our trust and hopes for a good season, 2024-2025″Marcel Urban, the president of the formation in “yellow-blue”, told us.

We remind you that Popov is 66 years old and before coming to Arad he trained, at club level, Hemofarm (Serbia), Lions Vršac (Serbia), Mercede Basket Alghero (Italy), Leotar Trebinje (Bosnia & Herzegovina), CSU Alba Iulia and Phoenix Constanța (Romania) and Tianjin Ronggang (China). The experienced technician of the “yellow-blue” was the selector of the national women’s basketball team of Romania in the period 2015-2017, but also of Serbia, between 1999 and 2005. With the latter, he achieved a ranking in 5th place at Eurobasket Women 2001, a 8th place at Eurobasket Women 2003, but also a 10th position at the Women’s Basketball World Championship in 2002. At the same time, with CSU Alba Iulia, she won the Central European League twice (2014, 2016).

Urban: “I want to finish the contingent of Romanian players as soon as possible, because we have a whole summer for foreign players”

But, Marcel Urban is already working on the group of players, especially since at the end of the season there were no more basketball players under contract. “There are some who have already signed, others will not continue. Some of these we want, they don’t want to continue, but there is also the category of those who would like to stay and we would like to part with them. First of all, I want to finish the contingent of Romanian players as soon as possible, because we have a whole summer for the foreign players. We also need to see what will happen in the second session of projects, because we need to have credibility and security on the budget that you create. We don’t want to stretch ourselves more than the quilt allows, because we have credibility from this point of view, being up to date with all salaries and taxes. We want to make a batch as competitive as possible, but also promising, it’s a challenge every year for us”, said the president of the Arad people on Strada TV.
