The six-year-old child from Gorj who was illegally crossed the border with false documents will return to Romania on Monday, the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption (ANPDCA) announced in a press release. The child’s parents are suspected of having sold him for several hundred lei.

The six-year-old child will be brought to Romania on Monday, together with a psychologist and a team from the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Gorj, which went to Munich to take the minor and accompany him back to the country.

The ANPDCA president, Secretary of State Rareș-Petru Achiriloaie, also went to Munich to discuss this case with the German authorities.

  • “The absolute priority at the moment is to make sure that this child is okay, that he will receive all the support and help from our specialists to overcome this obvious trauma that he has been through. We trust that the investigative bodies will solve this case as soon as possible, in which the facts seem to be downright horrifying, and we trust that those who are guilty will answer in court.
  • I thank my colleagues from DGAPSC Gorj, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, respectively the Consulate General of Romania in Munich, for the efficiency with which we collaborated in this case, managing together to ensure that this child is safe, with the full cooperation of the German authorities”. Achiriloaie said, according to the press release.

The case of the six-year-old child came to the attention of the authorities in Romania after they were notified by those in Germany.

“In Romania, the investigation in this case, in which there are suspicions of trafficking of minors, was taken over by DIICOT, as a result of a notification made by the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Gorj”, the press release also states .

And the boy’s siblings, an eight-year-old girl and a two-year-old and eight-month-old boy, were taken over by the authorities and are in the care of a foster carer, the authorities also inform.

The child’s father is an alcoholic, and his mother has mental problems, according to the authorities’ investigation

The checks in this case started after DGASPC Gorj received an address from ANPDCA in April of this year, according to which a child had been sold and taken to Germany.

“Immediately the procedure was started according to the legislation in force, the institutions empowered to verify the reported aspects and intervene according to the legal competences, being, in this case, DIICOT, notified. The representatives of DGASPC Gorj went to the family home together with the representatives of the local authority to assess the socio-family situation. It was established following the intervention and discussions with the legal representatives that the minor in question is not at home. It was found that there are still two minors at home, minors who were taken over shortly by the representatives of DGASPC Gorj together with the Police representatives, and the measure of special protection was instituted for them – emergency placement with professional foster carers”, he declared for News.ro spokesperson of DGASPC Gorj, Minodora Sucea.

Local sources told News.ro that the first data from the investigation show that the little boy, who turned six in March of this year, was sold for a sum of several hundred lei.

The child’s father is an alcoholic, and the mother seems to have mental problems, the authorities who went to the family home found.
