Urban community gardens may soon be a reality in Cluj as well

--

The SOS Organization (Sustainable Organized Society) and Sustainable Cluj have been maintaining for a year and half an experimental kindergarten near the Mill Canal and created a local regulation for community gardening that they want to implement in Cluj-Napoca. On the morning of May 1, from 10 o’clock, the two organizations invite you to a themed event with a guided tour and picnic, where you will discover Cluj’s potential for urban gardening.

Adrian Dohotaru: “We propose to the authorities through a public policy proposal and a
regulation, the generalization of this example in the metropolitan area so that thousands of Cluj residents can benefit from healthy food, socialization and relaxation.”

Local public policy creates a legal framework for gardens in various areas of the city, which any Cluj resident can manage at low prices, calculated according to the minimum pension. It should be noted that claiming the gardens by citizens is an old practice from the 19th century, which the two organizations only intend to carry forward.

Along with this event, a petition was also launched through which Cluj residents can express their interest in caring for a community garden: https://petitie.web.app/petitii/adopta-o-gradina-comunitara

“In a world of increasing alienation from our food, of unprecedented acceleration of the pace
urban life, a garden no matter how small in the proximity of our house can be extremely
valuable, with educational values for our children and an easy meeting place for communities. We urgently need this type of space in Cluj!” declares Cami Gui, on behalf of Cluj Sustenabil.

Before the picnic, the participants are also invited to a small club to clean the layers from
garden. The space for relaxation and discussion is called GUST – Urban Garden Someșană
Transilvania and is currently a garden accepted by the authorities on the public domain.
