The mayor of the Ciorani commune in Prahov, Marin Voicu, sent to court for defrauding the local elections of 2020 and accused in another case for similar acts concerning the parliamentary elections of the same year, wants to obtain a new mandate. His candidacy was accepted, writes Agerpres.

According to the website of Ciorani City Hall, the Electoral Bureau of Municipal Circumscription accepted Voicu’s candidacy for the position of mayor from the PSD side.

The decision of the Electoral Bureau states that Marin Voicu fulfills “all the substantive and formal conditions” established by law to run.

He also opens the list of PSD candidates for the Ciorani Local Council.

The file regarding the fraud of the September 2020 local elections in the Prahov commune of Ciorani was sent to court in July 2021, with 23 defendants being referred to justice, including the mayor Marin Voicu.

Thus, 20 people are accused of falsifying electoral documents and records, two are accused of complicity in committing this act, and the mayor Marin Voicu is sent to court for instigating the falsification of electoral documents and records.

Four plea agreements were previously concluded in this case.

“On the occasion of the local elections on September 27, the members of the polling stations in the Ciorani commune falsified the minutes of recording the results of the votes for the election of the mayor, the Local Council, the County Council and the president of the County Council, inserting in these records data inconsistent with reality. In fact, the number of votes obtained by some candidates/political formations was reduced to the detriment of other candidates/political formations”, previously stated the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Ploiesti Court of Appeal.

The defendants in the electoral fraud file from the Ciorani commune “have absolutely no criminal record”, they are “natural” and laugh about their own way of defrauding the elections, “stealing” voters’ votes “without any resentment”, it was stated in a motivation of the Prahova Court, which ordered, at that time, the preventive arrest of several defendants.

According to the document, they are natural “because they do not care about the values of a democratic society”.

Voicu was also indicted in a similar case, aimed at defrauding the 2020 parliamentary elections.

According to an answer sent, on Friday, by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Mizil Court, at the request of AGERPRES, at the level of this unit there is a criminal investigation file in which investigations are being carried out regarding alleged criminal activities carried out on 06.12.2020 on the occasion of the electoral poll for the parliamentary elections in Romania.

“In the criminal case, by the ordinance dated 22.03.2024, it was decided to confirm the continuation of the criminal investigation against 51 persons, who had duties regarding the organization of the parliamentary elections of 06.12.2020, from Ciorani commune, Prahova county, including against the said Marin Voicu. The said Marin Voicu was arrested for committing the crime of instigating the falsification of electoral documents and records, in a continuous form”, says the quoted source.

In 2020, Marin Voicu ran on behalf of the PNL, after holding several mandates as PSD mayor.
