Rahova Square in the center of Oradea will be transformed into a pedestrian space, through a European project worth three million euros.
A square with three places of worship…
The urban space, which will be renamed Piaţa Concordiei, considering the coexistence in the area of the Orasul Nou Reformed Church, the Aachvas Rein Synagogue and the Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, is to be transformed into an open area, by removing the fences around the places of worship .
“The new area was designed as a multifunctional space, which will include green spaces, tiled spaces, urban furniture, photovoltaic public lighting, infrastructure adopted in such a way as to allow the access of disabled people, two boots, and will benefit from wifi connectivity”, he sent to the City Hall, Friday, through a press release.
… and space for rest and relaxation
The changes that will be made to this public area will be intended to transform the location into a meeting, rest and recreation space for Oradeans. “The square will be paved with porphyry and green areas will be set up on an area of 302 square meters, provided with low vegetation and 20 pieces of red maples”, the press release states.
The investment project was approved by the Oradea City Council in Thursday’s meeting, without comments, and the documentation is to be submitted by the municipality for financing through the North-West Regional Program 2021-2027.
The initiative to develop the Concordia square, through an urban regeneration project, was made public by the former mayor Ilie Bolojan as early as 2019. The project was postponed so that the municipality of Oradea could identify sources of financing from European funds for the creation of the new square.
