Great performance for a high school student from Gorj who managed to qualify for four national Olympics and rank in the top places.

Most recently, Mario Scurtu, a 10th grade student at the “Ecaterina Teodoroiu” National College in Târgu Jiu, won the Gold Medal in Physics and a mention from the Ministry of National Education. The National Physics Olympiad took place in Brașov and ended a few days ago.

It is not the only medal obtained by Mario Scurtu, who also won the bronze medal at the National Mathematics Olympiad. At the end of May, the Astrophysics Olympiad will also follow.

This year, Mario qualified for the National Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, Linguistics and Astrophysics. It should also be noted that he is a multiple medalist at the national Olympics, but also at international competitions.

After finishing high school, Mario would like to continue his studies at a university in the US and major in astrophysics or physics. And why not, he would love to work at NASA or in research.

And one last detail to properly appreciate the merits of the student from Gorj: he commutes daily from his hometown to the high school in Târgu Jiu. An example that in Romania you can perform, even if you come from the countryside.
