Gianina van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc won gold medals for Romania in the women’s double sculls, light category, at the European Rowing Championships in Szeged (Hungary).

The two Romanians finished the race with a time of 07:29.63.

A crew from Greece ranked second (07:31.94), and Italy ranked third (07:33.73).

“We are very happy, we have been waiting for this title for about eight years. I won the world title twice, but never the European one. Now, finally, we got it, so we are very happy. I retired for a year and now I’m back. That means a lot.” – declared Gianina van Groningen, according to news.ro.

Romania also won silver on Saturday with the women’s four-frame team, made up of Mădălina Bereş, Maria Lehaci, Magdalena Rusu and Amalia Bereş.

In the women’s four sculls, Romania (Mariana Dumitru, Emanuela Ciotău, Alexandra Ungureanu and Mădălina Moroşan) took sixth place in the final (06:53.17).

In the final of the men’s four-row event, Cristian Nicoară, Bogdan Băitoc, Florin Horodişteanu and Ioan Prundeanu placed fifth (06:06.96).

At the 2023 edition of the European Championships, held in Bled (Slovenia), Romania won six medals, including five gold and one silver, reports Agerpres.
