The Romanian authorities are investigating, after a family from Gorj allegedly sold one of their children, a 6-year-old boy, who was taken out of the country and taken to Germany. The amount that the parents – the alcoholic father and the mother with mental problems – would have received for the child is several hundred lei. The General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) Gorj took over the other two children of the family, who are now in the care of foster carers.

The checks in this case started after DGASPC Gorj received an address from the National Authority for the Protection of Child Rights and Adoption, in April of this year, according to which a child had been sold and taken to Germany.

“Immediately the procedure was started according to the legislation in force, the institutions empowered to verify the reported issues and intervene according to the legal powers, being, in this case, DIICOT, notified. The representatives of DGASPC Gorj went to the family home together with the representatives of the local authority to evaluate the socio-family situation. It was established following the intervention and discussions with the legal representatives that the minor in question is not at home. It was found that there are still two minors at home, minors who were taken over shortly by the representatives of DGASPC Gorj together with the representatives of the Police, and a special protection measure was instituted for them – emergency placement with professional foster carers”, said the bearer by the spokesperson of DGASPC Gorj, Minodora Sucea.

Local sources told News.ro that the first data from the investigation show that the little boy, who turned six in March of this year, was sold for a sum of several hundred lei.

The child’s father is an alcoholic, and the mother seems to have mental problems, the authorities who went to the family home found.

The brother and sister of the sold boy

The older sister of the little boy who was allegedly sold and his younger brother were found there. The girl is eight years old, and the youngest brother is two years and eight months old. Both are now in foster care and following a psychological counseling program. The authorities requested other medical investigations for the two children.

Director General of DGASPC Gorj, Laurenţiu Diaconescu and the Minister of the Family, Natalia Intotero, visited the minor’s two brothers at the home of the foster carers, having discussions with them.

DGASPC Gorj officials specify that “after clarifying the legal situation of the minor in Germany, the institution will intervene in taking him over and establishing a special protection measure”.

Intotero sends the head of DGASP to Germany

The Minister of Family, Youth and Equal Opportunities, Natalia Intotero, announced that Rareş-Petru Achiriloaie, the president of DGASPC, will travel to Germany to ensure the minor’s return to the country.

“What else I can tell you is that, next week, the president of the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption will make an emergency trip to Germany, where he will talk with the German authorities with a view to repatriation, in the shortest possible time , of the minor who is now in their care”, Intotero explained to Antena 3.
