Street crime in Dâmbovița County, in the first quarter of this year, decreased by 8.5% – compared to the same period last year, says Chief Commissioner Viorel Polexe – Commander of the Dâmbovița Police. This shows that there was a better presence of the police in the street, in conjunction with the numerous prevention activities organized. Chief Commissioner Polexe informed us, during a stock press conference, that in the months of January, February and March 2024, 871 actions with increased numbers were organized to prevent and combat criminal and contraventional acts. Most of these – 586 – were on the line of public order, followed by road raids – 132.

As for contraventional violations, in the first quarter of this year, the police in Dâmbovița applied 27,677 sanctions – 4,703 being for non-compliance with the provisions of Law 61/1991 and 19,238 for violations committed by drivers. Also, 109 residents of Dâmboviţa were fined for improperly calling the emergency number 112. Sanctions were also given for violating the law on taxi transport – 36 and for violations in the field of forestry – 72.

Referring to drivers, Chief Commissioner Viorel Polexe specified that 4,800 drivers were fined for not complying with the legal speed limit, 4,400 – for not wearing a seat belt (we also include passengers here, not just drivers) and 93 for – got behind the wheel drunk. At the same time, the commander of the Dâmbovița Police stated, 747 pedestrians, 1,276 cyclists and 310 cart drivers were sanctioned.

It is gratifying that, in the first quarter of 2024, there was a 5.88% decrease in serious traffic accidents.
