The control institutions in Botoșani county have announced the intensification of the checks carried out at producers and traders of meat and animal products in the period leading up to the Easter holidays. The action plans were detailed during the last meeting of the Prefectural College held on Thursday, April 25th. On paper, everything looked good, but it remains to be seen how the actions will take place in the field, especially when there are reports from the population.

The measures plans were presented by Teodor Harabagiu, the executive director of the Botoșani Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Directorate and Teodor Ferariu, the executive director of the Public Health Directorate. They presented the checks that will be carried out by DSVSA inspectors in slaughterhouses, cold storages, grocers, butchers, public catering units, bakeries, patisseries, warehouses for vegetables and fruits or agri-food markets. The main goal is to prevent food poisoning, and special attention will be paid to hygiene conditions, compliance with accompanying documents, maintaining the thermal regime recommended by the manufacturer, ensuring traceability, labeling and marking of products. In all the markets in the county there will be permanent teams made up of veterinarians, giving consumers the opportunity to report any suspicions regarding the quality of the products. Also, Teodor Harabagiu drew attention to the need to buy products only from authorized locations and to avoid purchasing meat from animals slaughtered in unauthorized premises, without veterinary sanitary supervision.

Regarding public health, Teodor Ferariu emphasized that the Public Health Control Service will ensure the permanence for the immediate resolution of events with an impact on public health. The close collaboration between DSP Botoșani and DSVSA will allow the exchange of information. Thus, in the situation where DSVSA Botoșani identifies a problem that falls within the competence of DSP Botoșani, the health inspectors will immediately intervene together with those of DSVSA Botoșani. Also, DSP Botoșani will provide a permanent telephone number – 0745619074 – which will be answered by the specialized staff of the unit, available 24 hours a day.

“I appeal to you to show increased attention to the producers and traders of specific food products for this period, because we are talking about the safety of the citizens of Botošan and we must all pay attention to this aspect, which is very important for all of us”prefect Sorin Cornilă pointed out.
