“It would be nice if we got the maximum amount we asked for, but we’re sticking with what we got.” What the organizers of events in Sibiu say about the distribution of money from the Cultural Agenda

--

The 97 eligible projects that were submitted to the City Hall to receive funding under the Cultural Agenda 2024 will receive a budget of 7 million lei. We talked to some of the event organizers in Sibiu to find out if they are satisfied with the amounts granted by the mayor’s office, but also what plans they have for their events for 2024.

The most consistent budget is for events in the Music section. Focus in the Park (Focus Sibiu Association) or Ancient Sibiu (Ancient Sibiu Association) will each receive 300,000 lei for the projects submitted to the Cultural Agenda. Sebastian Marcovici, the organizer of the Focus in The Park event, says that the amount received is the maximum that the town hall can grant. The novelty this year is that access to the festival will be based on tickets.

“Our funding has not changed, we received exactly the same money as last year, so I can’t comment on anything. I know this is the maximum for Focus in The Park that the town hall can allocate. We appreciate and appreciate your support. This year we are introducing the tickets because the line-up is 50% international and there is no other possibility to bring these artists that we announced in the first wave plus the second wave that we will announce in July actually”, said Sebastian Marcovici for the Council Tower.

“It would be nice if we got the maximum amount we asked for, but we’re settling for what we got”

The Astra Museum Complex received funding for four projects. For Astra Multicultural, the Museum received the sum of 200,000 lei, for Târgul Frumos. Ceramic. User – 100,000 lei, for Poets in Transylvania, the International Poetry Festival from Sibiu – 50,000 lei, and Anima Astra received 100,000 lei.

“I am satisfied, the money is the same as last year, it is neither more nor less, the support for us, for the museum, is very beneficial, and more than the financial component is the way it is understood that we, at the Astra Museum , during the visiting season we deliver quality cultural actions for the public that ultimately leave economic effects in the city of Sibiu. It would be good if we received the maximum amount we asked for, but we stick to what we received and will do the respective events”, said Ciprian Ștefan, director of the Astra Museum Complex.

“The fair itself is not affected”

The Events for Tourism association received the amount of 250,000 lei for the New Year 2024 project, and Sibiu Christmas World received the status of an eligible project without funding.

“We submit projects year after year since the Cultural Agenda exists. Over time, their size has been different and according to that we have calibrated the events to what is meant by the cultural program. The event is not affected, we only requested funding for the cultural program. It is not a ticket-generating event. Any expense is an expense that cannot be recovered, their size depends on non-reimbursable financing. The fair itself is not affected, we have not grown it over time, unlike other cities we focus on the fair itself not on the cultural program. It’s like an option that we’re launching to the town hall and something through which the public will get something extra”, said Andrei Drăgan, the organizer of the Sibiu Christmas Fair, for the Council Tower.

We remind you that more than 100 projects were submitted to the City Hall to receive funding under the Cultural Agenda 2024. Of these, the municipality declared 97 eligible, and 80 of them will receive public funds during the session.

The draft decision regarding the list of projects on this year’s Cultural Agenda of Sibiu is proposed for approval by local councilors, with the vote to take place in the regular meeting on Thursday, April 25.
