START experts, present at the Gorj and Rovinari County Council!

--

The Gorj County Council applied, in February of this year, to the call for the START Technical Assistance Program, launched by the European Union Initiative for Coal Regions in Transition. The Gorj County project is one of the 4 selected to benefit from technical support from the Secretariat of the Initiative in achieving a just transition, along with those from the regions of Asturias (Spain), Lower Silesia (Poland) and Zasavje (Slovenia).

The visit of the START delegation to our county, on April 23-24, 2024, marks a crucial step in the implementation of the Technical Assistance Program, in which Gorj County is one of the four European regions selected to benefit from support in achieving a just transition.

During the visit, the START experts – Paul Baker, Robert Pollock and Veronika Muller – had productive meetings with the members of the Working Group for the transition to climate neutrality, with representatives of the university and business environment, as well as with public administration officials from Rovinari and Backwater. The purpose of these discussions was to adapt and coordinate local efforts with the specific needs of our region.

Through close collaboration with the Secretariat of the European Union Initiative for Coal Regions in Transition, Gorjul is committed to developing a portfolio of strategic projects for a green and sustainable economy. Thus, the technical assistance received will strengthen the local capacity to successfully and transparently implement the Just Transition Program 2021-2027 and to anticipate the challenges of the Social Fund for Climate.
