Cluj-Napoca has outstanding projects in terms of traffic. In the city, there are connections between neighborhoods that have not been made and that would be needed to decongest traffic, stated George Trif (USR), candidate of the United Right Alliance for the Cluj-Napoca City Council, for monitorulcj.ro.

The traffic in Cluj-Napoca is getting more congested every day. A solution to decongest traffic would be to create links between neighborhoods, stated George Trif, USR candidate for the Cluj-Napoca City Council.

“For traffic, we see outstanding projects. We have connections between neighborhoods that haven’t been made in a very long time. Although I proposed connections, here I mean including between Mănăştur and Zorilor, between Gheorgheni and the exit from Mărăşti, there are many between neighborhoods that need to be done to free up traffic, but they are delayed for unknown reasons”, declared George Trif.

Cluj-Napoca needs the Metropolitan Belt

George Trif specified that the traffic in Cluj-Napoca needs the Metropolitan Belt and explained that its story began in 2003. He mentioned that even then its importance for traffic was known, but no step was taken faster.

“The story of the Metropolitan Belt began in 2003. Even then it was known that a detour through the south of the city was needed. However, although it was in the Urban Planning Plan of 2012 and had to be done, it took these years for things to move. A feasibility study that was supposed to last a year ended up lasting 4 years and we still don’t see any work. It seems that the decision-maker is waiting for something for the project to go ahead, without seeing how many problems the lack of the Belt generates for the people of Cluj”, said George Trif (USR), for monitorulcj.ro.

The works on the first section of the Metropolitan Belt, in May

Field work on section 1 of stage I of the Metropolitan Belt should begin in May 2024, according to mayor Emil Boc.

The local councilors voted, during a meeting, to update the technical-economic indicators related to the investment objective. Thus, the works become more expensive by 133 million euros and increase from 1.6 billion euros to 1.74 billion euros. This is an increase equivalent to the rate of inflation.

In the first phase of the project, direct connectivity with the Cluj Regional Emergency Hospital will be ensured, and the works will include the sector over 23 km long and connecting roads 19.16 km long. Thus, connectivity will be ensured with the Monobloc Pediatric Hospital, but also the connection with DN1N, which represents the Cluj East bypass option, through node 18 Apahida, which provides for the construction of the bridge over the Someș canal, a solution that allows the extension of the Cluj International Airport runway.
