After two sessions of acquisitions of works of art, in 2020 and 2022, the National Museum of Contemporary Art of Romania announces a new stage, with a budget of 500,000 RON, coming from the Ministry of Culture.

According to a press release sent by MNAC, the 2024 procurement session is dedicated both to the more than 6,000 Romanian visual artists active in the country or in the diaspora, as well as to the legal heirs of some contemporary artists of Romanian origin who have been active in Romania or abroad.

There is also no entry restriction for artists whose work has been purchased in past sessions.

Artists are invited to look at their personal histories and propose works that highlight the processes and self-searches that took place in the privacy of the workshop.

We invite the artists to make a curatorial effort regarding their own work, and to include in the offer, alongside the proposed works, documentary materials of unique value related to their production and route. The laboratory dimension of the artistic activities contributes to the establishment of an overview of the processuality of Romanian contemporary art, supporting one of the distinctive goals of the museum – the documentation and research of the collections, as a guarantee of study for future generations.” Călin Dan, director of the National Museum of Contemporary Art.

The participation and selection system is the same as in the previous sessions, resulting in a total of 359 works entering the MNAC collections. They were and are still accessible to the public through a series of exhibitions held at the Museum headquarters and in the country, through partnerships with other institutions. The catalogs of the first two sessions are currently being published, respectively being edited, at the MNAC Publishing House.

The files can be registered until June 15, 2024, at 17:00.

This year, the Ministry of Culture allocates funds for three museum institutions in Romania: MNAC, the Brukenthal National Museum, the Iasi Art Museum.
