President CJ Harghita, dissatisfied after the Miercurea Ciuc Prosecutor’s Office closed the file initiated after the placement of 150 crosses in the Valea Uzului cemetery

--

The prosecutor’s office in Miercurea Ciuc dismissed without starting the criminal investigation the file initiated due to the placement without authorization of 150 wooden crosses in the military cemetery in Valea Uzului, last year, by the nationalist organization Calea Neamului, announced the news portal Maszol.ro, presenting the post published by Mihai Tîrnoveanu, the head of the organization, on his Facebook page reports the Hungarian news agency MTI.

Tîrnoveanu recalled that following the complaints of the president of the Harghita County Council, the City Hall of Sânmartin and the Hungarian Alliance of Transylvania (AMT), several complaints were made against him, and the prosecutor’s office merged the files.

The accusations were the following: public incitement, incitement to hatred, violence and discrimination, incitement to destruction, incitement to disturbance of possession, desecration of graves, execution of construction works in the cemetery without authorization.

The prosecutor’s office found that the act does not exist in the case of the first accusations. Regarding the erection of the 150 wooden crosses, it was found that although there is a possibility that they were “mounted” without authorization, that action does not fall within the criminal sphere, because the military cemetery in Valea Uzului “is not in the area of protection of historical monuments”, wrote the Transylvanian portal, quoting from Tîrnoveanu’s post.

Contacted by Maszol, Csaba Borboly, the president of the Harghita County Council, reported that they will appeal the decision.

“We do not consider the motivation acceptable. We will continue at the Miercurea Ciuc Court”, declared Csaba Borboly.

The mayor of Sânmartin, Sándor Birtalan, who also filed a complaint against the leader of the nationalist organization, made a similar statement to the Szekelyhon.ro news portal. The mayor reported that they received the information from the prosecutor’s office, and according to it, the crimes reported – incitement to hatred, violence and discrimination, instigation to destruction, instigation to disorder of possession – did not take place.

“We have an agreement with the Harghita County Council: the lawyers are working to be able to challenge the decision of the prosecutor’s office in court”, added the mayor, about future steps.

The wooden crosses were installed in July last year, in the military cemetery at Valea Uzului, by the supporters of the Calea Neamului organization, after the first occupation of the cemetery was considered illegal by the Romanian judiciary, which also ordered the removal of the structures and symbols placed there in the cemetery.
