The Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, said on Wednesday that Tarom is not in an enviable economic shape, and after this stage, which he hopes will end with the receipt of that aid from the European Commission, it must enter a stage of reorganization economic. This will often mean perhaps decisions that are not very applauded but absolutely necessary, if we want to save Tarom, Grindeanu also said.

“For now, Tarom must do the following, receive that aid from the European Commission by the end of the month. Tarom is not in an enviable economic shape and, even if I don’t tell you, you know it very well. They must find, after this stage which I hope will end in the next period, with the receipt of that aid from the Commission, to enter a stage of economic reorganization. This will often mean perhaps decisions that are not very applauded but absolutely necessary, if we want to save Tarom”, said the minister in a press conference.

He specified that, about a month or so after he took office, he had a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart, who told him that their national airline was closed sometime in the late 90s, 25 years ago. “And now the Bulgarians reproach the authorities, regardless of the government, the president, for not having a national company. I say that, with the receipt of this aid from the Commission, we must enter Tarom in a period of reorganization and be open to any kind of proposals that would lead to the establishment of Tarom on solid economic principles”, emphasized the minister .

Grindeanu also showed that, first of all, there is no question of the desire to save this company.

“Our desire to find any kind of solutions, including partnerships that would lead to this happy scenario, is out of the question. I looked for this, including last week, when I was with the prime minister in the Gulf area, in the area of Qatar and the Emirates. Tomorrow we have a joint commission of businessmen from the Emirates, after our visit, which will take place in Bucharest. We are trying to find solutions for Tarom”, emphasized Grindeanu.

The minister mentioned that a company the size of Tarom normally has around 500 or 600 employees, 90% of them being seafarers. “We have double”, added the minister.
