In Tuesday’s meeting, the government approved a memorandum that provides for the establishment of a Committee with a coordinating role regarding the application of European regulations related to data, including data governance and reuse, digital services and artificial intelligence, reports News.ro.

This committee will include representatives of the following institutions: the National Authority for Communications Administration and Regulation, the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization, the Authority for Digitization of Romania, the National Authority for the Supervision of Personal Data Processing, the National Directorate for Cyber ​​Security, the Institute National Statistics Office, the National Authority for Consumer Protection, the National Broadcasting Council and the Competition Council.

By creating the Coordinating Committee for Data, Digital Services and Artificial Intelligence, the necessary framework for cooperation at the national level is created in order to achieve the following objectives:

– The implementation and unitary application of the legislation in the mentioned fields, the concrete and correct delimitation of the attributions, especially in the case of interdependent attributions;

– harmonizing the understanding and interpretation of European norms, both present and future;

– coordination of interventions on the market, when appropriate, in accordance with the specific attributions;

– ensuring the convergence of the decisions adopted by the parties regarding the identified problems, the specific legal attributions;

– the efficient exchange of information, advice and recommendations in relation to specific issues related to the implementation or ensuring compliance with European norms;

– the exchange of expertise, including in the form of specific (ad hoc) events organized to support the group’s activities (for example, meetings with industry representatives, service providers, equipment providers, etc.).

Members of the Committee will cooperate in particular in areas of common interest and competence regarding data management and re-use, establishing relevant aspects for digital services and transmitting information in a concerted manner when essential platform services are under investigation by market, the definition of specific standards, principles and norms in accordance with European legislation, including regarding artificial intelligence, the development of guidelines/good practice recommendations, the adoption of common positions regarding regulatory approaches in the areas of interest and the support/promotion them, when appropriate, within the working groups at the European level, but also regarding any other aspects resulting from the Committee’s activity.
