An air mass with Saharan dust crosses Romania, and spectacular images were captured in several areas of the country.

Specialists say that dust will be observed in certain areas of the country and in the intervals in which it will rain.

“Just yesterday, the National Meteorological Administration issued that statement regarding the transport of dust that was to be produced towards the Balkan Peninsula and Romania. Indeed, quite high concentrations of dust were observed in the south of the Balkan Peninsula, in the area of Greece, in the area of Athens, images of the orange sky, quite high concentrations in the area of the Mediterranean Sea.

Concentrations of dust have also reached over the territory of our country, starting last night, and this morning, an air mass loaded with dust particles is in the southeastern part of Romania, Muntenia, Dobrogea, Moldova, where they are still dust particles in suspension, and the rains that fell last night also combined with these aerosols, these particles full of dust and fell to the surface in the form of deposits of reddish brick dust and we all observed this phenomenon”, he stated Mihai Hustiu, ANM meteorologist.

“I think it is the fourth epidos this spring in which we have dust transport to our country. This whole situation was determined by a cyclone that formed in the Mediterranean Sea, it favored the transport of dust from the Sahara, Libya and very quickly to the Balkan Peninsula and Romania.

Next, this Saharan dust will move, as specified in the communiqué, to the northeast, and in the afternoon this air mass will leave the geographical area of our country. Basically, from the west, an air mass will enter that will no longer have dust particles”, explained Mihai Hustiu, ANM meteorologist.

Possibly the highest concentration of Saharan dust since 2018 so far.

“As for the forecast for the next few days, today the weather is somewhat better than yesterday and a significant warming, because we have the southern circulation from the Balkan Peninsula and a much warmer air mass than the previous days and the temperatures reach 23-24 degrees , but also the degree of atmospheric instability is gradually increasing, so in the afternoon we expect showers, electrical discharges and even wind intensifications in the western and northwestern part of the country, in the mountains, locally in the center, and at night and in the southeast side.

Tomorrow is expected to be rainy again in most areas of the country, with the mention that thefts are also expected in the south-east of the country”, said Mihai Hustiu, ANM meteorologist.
