Several dozen employees of the Sibiu County Emergency Clinical Hospital, doctors, nurses and non-medical staff alike, will benefit between 22 and 24 April 2024 from stress and burnout management workshops and communication in difficult situations, offered by the psychologist specialists of Office of the WHO (World Health Organization) Romania. A few people from outside our unit also signed up for the workshop, namely an employee of the Sibiu Pediatric Hospital and one from the Sibiu Pneumophthiziology Hospital, the number of participants reaching 80 people.
The curriculum includes managing stress and burnout, as well as adopting effective coping mechanisms. Topics cover understanding stress and its components, recognizing early signs of burnout, adopting coping strategies, promoting a healthy lifestyle and mindset, and improving communication with difficult patients.
The workshop includes interactive sessions and exercises designed to facilitate shared learning experiences among participants. Audio and video materials and individual and group exercises are used in an interactive manner.
Those present at the workshops learn stress management techniques, but also how to react in difficult situations relating to patients and relatives. In this regard, two theater actors will stage certain scenarios to help participants resume challenging conversations with a difficult patient, colleague or relative. Participants are encouraged to recall a challenging conversation they have had to manage in their clinical practice and try to improve the interaction during the role play with the actors.
At the end, each participant receives a copy of the WHO manual “Doing What Matters” in Romanian.
The event takes place between April 22-24, 2024, at the Hilton Sibiu Hotel.
