The joint PSD-PNL candidate for Bucharest mayor’s office, doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu, discussed with PSD leaders the option of withdrawing from the race for the capital’s mayor’s office if he does not increase in the polls, political sources from the coalition told G4Media.ro. Cârstoiu denies that he discussed this scenario. The PSD leader, Marcel Ciolacu, told G4Media.ro that it is “a campaign diversion”.

One of the options under discussion would have been for doctor Cârstoiu, who is also a manager at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital, to be appointed instead of Alexandru Rafila at the Ministry of Health.

“Totally false”, said Cătălin Cîrstoiu for G4Media.ro.

“There was no talk of such a thing. It’s a campaign diversion. He will remain a candidate,” PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu told G4Media.ro

The doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu started the campaign with a poor score in the polls. An opinion poll carried out by Avangarde on behalf of Digi24, published on March 25, showed that the people of Bucharest would vote for Cristian Popescu Piedone with 44%, Nicușor Dan – 27%, Cătălin Cîrstoiu – 16%, Mihai Enache (AUR) 10% .

On Tuesday, Cătălin Cîrstoiu made an electoral visit to sector 4, where he wanted to take a photo in the subway. Cîrstoiu arrived at the campaign event, according to G4Media.ro sources, with a BMW X6.
