“We are reaching the heaven of cockroaches and bedbugs” – Cluj residents demand that the City Hall act, after the insects have invaded several neighborhoods in Cluj-Napoca

Bed bugs have invaded several neighborhoods in Cluj-Napoca. The people of Cluj complain that insects are everywhere and demand that the City Hall carry out urgent disinsection actions.

,,Hello, Can something be done about the bedbug invasion? In the old days, regular disinsections were carried out, but for about two years now I have not seen them being carried out anywhere in the city. At this rate, we are reaching the heaven of cockroaches and bedbugs.”, complained a resident of the Grigorescu neighborhood.

Unfortunately, the Grigorescu neighborhood is not the only one invaded by these insects, the residents of the Entre Lacuri, Mănăștur and Bună Ziua neighborhoods have also reported the presence of bed bugs.

According to Cluj-Napoca City Hall, the last disinsection was carried out on September 4, 2023, the last phytosanitary treatments were applied on October 6, 2023, and the last deratization also on October 6, 2023.

There are several types of bed bugs in Cluj-Napoca:

• Marbled bug (Halyomorpha halys) – It is a new pest in Romania. Adults are brown-marbled (base color is cream-white covered/beaten with numerous dark brown dots), eyes are dark brown. It gets into people’s homes.
• The green bug (Nezara viridula) – Adults of this species are relatively easy to recognize in the field, having a dull green color, with dark red (sometimes black) eyes.
• Lace bug (Corythucha arcuata) – Also called plane tiger is a small, whitish insect. The adult lace bug is milky white, almost transparent.
