PNL Neamț deputy, Mara Calista, announces that on “International Autism Awareness Day” she participated today in the event “I am not invisible! Hear me, understand me, support me”, organized by Help Autism. “On this occasion, I signed the “National Commitment for Autism” to further support, through concrete measures, for people with autism.

Each of us can contribute to the integration of these people into society, to show them that we care. People affected by disorders in the spectrum of this condition can be recoverable if they are diagnosed in time and start therapy before the age of 3.

With the support of colleagues in the Parliament and the Government, we created the legal framework to ensure immediate and non-discriminatory access to services related to the medical act for all people diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and for the settlement of therapeutic interventions.

At the same time, in February 2022, the occupation of behavioral analyst was included in the COR. The next step, extremely necessary, is the recognition of the profession of behavioral analyst, considering that there are approximately 45,000 people with autism living in Romania. 1 child out of 36 has a spectrum disorder (ASD), and 2000 children are diagnosed annually (according to INS data). Less than 1% of diagnosed autistic adults in Romania have a job.

I will continue to collaborate with Anca Dumitrescu- Autism Voice, Daniela Bololoi- Help Autism, Ana Turtureanu- Lumea lui Arthur and lawyer Elena Păculea to solve the problems identified in the provision of services for people with ASD and their families.

There is still a lot to be done to help people affected by autism spectrum disorders, but it is gratifying that the state has started to take concrete measures.

I will offer my support and expertise in the future to come up with other concrete measures to help them integrate into society and enjoy life“, transmits Mara Calista.
