The audacity of a Ukrainian woman crossed the limits. The woman was spotted by the police on Saturday night to Sunday while she was heading to a market in the city of Berești, where she intended to go to sell the large amount of fish she had brought from Moldova.

Questioned by the law enforcement officers about the documents of origin, she reasoned that she received the fish from her brother and that she knew nothing about the documents. The police confiscated dozens of kilograms of fish brought illegally to the country and started an investigation to determine exactly how the 160 kilograms of carp and mackerel were passed through customs. From sources close to the investigation, it seems that the Ukrainian woman entered the country via Oancea. We also requested the opinion of the STPF Galati representative, commissioner Sorin Ene.

“In accordance with the provisions of GEO 105 of June 27, 2001, with subsequent amendments and additions, the staff of all public authorities who, according to the law, have competences on the control line at the state border crossing carry out their work at the border crossing points. The border policeman, according to the law, controls persons, passports and other documents for crossing the state border, issued by the Romanian authorities, as well as those issued by foreign authorities, recognized or accepted by the Romanian state. When crossing the state border, after checking the documents regarding the identity of the persons, the customs authority performs the customs control, according to the regulations in the field.

Regarding the introduction of goods into Romania from a non-EU state, we make it clear that the verification of compliance with customs regulations is the competence of the Romanian Customs Authority. In the context, we make it clear that, in the event that, during the border control carried out at the crossing points, the representatives of this institution find that the violation of the customs regulations constitutes, as the case may be, a misdemeanor or a crime, they are obliged to apply the contravention sanctions or notify the representatives The Border Police, who draw up the verification documents provided for by the Code of Criminal Procedure”.
