The National Library of Romania becomes, starting Friday, March 15, the realm of digital visual art, hosting two fascinating immersive exhibitions: “Being Van Gogh” and “From Monet to Kandinsky. A Revolutionary Art”. After a world tour with four million spectators, these two exhibitions also arrive in Bucharest, offering the Romanian public a unique multimedia experience, both visually, through the projections specially tailored on the special architecture of the Symposium hall in the premises of the National Library, and through the voice of the actor Marius Manole, as Van Gogh. The two exhibitions are complemented by an artistic project in which artificial intelligence and the art of modernist painters exhibit, for the first time, significant images for the Romanian public, interpreted in the style of painters Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Claude Monet or Wassily Kandinsky.

The two exhibitions will alternate weekly until June 16, 2024, in the Symposium room in the National Library.

For the first time, both exhibitions will be able to be visited by buying a single ticket on the More.com platform.

Being Van Gogh promises a unique immersive journey into the world of the most famous post-impressionist painter, Vincent Van Gogh, capturing the emotions, hopes and fears of the artist in a show that brings together art, music and special effects.

Vincent Van Gogh, despite his poverty and obscurity during his lifetime, became one of the world’s most recognized artists, and “Being Van Gogh” reveals the pinnacle of his life and work. With more than 300 images of paintings, sketches and documentary photographs, the exhibition offers a complete foray into the inner world of the genius, the viewer understanding Van Gogh’s art through the emotions that accompanied him when he created the paintings we admire today.

Impressive technical details complete the immersive atmosphere of the “Being Van Gogh” exhibition. Projections on huge screens, accompanied by a special soundtrack, transform visitors into direct witnesses of Van Gogh’s genius. Virtual reality elements bring the paintings into the present, allowing admirers to explore the textures and details of each painting in a new way.

Watched by millions of visitors from all over the world, this show has been presented in the United States of America, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Chile, Belgium, Baltic countries, Russian Federation, etc. The exhibition takes place on a total area of 800 square meters, and its transmission is done by means of more than 2,000 meters of optical fiber. It is the only Van Gogh exhibition to use an on-screen actor to narrate the artist’s life within his own paintings.

The strong and expressive voice of Vincent Van Gogh in the “Being Van Gogh” exhibition in Bucharest belongs to the actor Marius Manole. His interpretation adds an extra dimension, bringing the great artist’s words and emotions to life in a profound and authentic way.

“From Monet to Kandinsky. A Revolutionary Art” presents the most important artistic movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries: Impressionism, Pointillism, Post-Impressionism, Cubism and Expressionism. The rapid development of art is illustrated by the works of eight outstanding masters of modernism in a unique combination of HD projections, animated graphics and music. Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, Edvard Munch, Paul Cézanne, Juan Gris, Robert Delaunay, Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky – all shared an invincible desire to take art to the next level, to find new suggestive and visual forms that capture extraordinary upheavals of their time.

“From Monet to Kandinsky. A Revolutionary Art” offers a fascinating look into the past of art and how it has evolved under the influence of social and technological transformations. Not only political upheavals and wars shook society, but also the great achievements of the industrial revolution and inventions with an impact on everyday life, such as the telegraph, the radio, electricity, the airplane. It was the time when new artistic movements appeared, later united under a single term: “modernism”. The revolutionary spirit of that era is illustrated through masterpieces that later influenced movements such as Cubism and Expressionism.

Another impressive common point of the exhibitions “Being Van Gogh” and “From Monet to Kandinsky. A Revolutionary Art” from the National Library of Bucharest is the “Infinite Room”. Integrating modern technology into an innovative space, it offers the captivating experience of infinite space, exploring the links between traditional and contemporary art generated by artificial intelligence, where current images of Romania are “painted” by the brush of Vincent van Gogh or Claude Monet.

Thus, visitors will have the opportunity to see: the Decebalus statue in the style of Edvard Munch, the Dacian fortresses in the style of Edvard Munch, the Transfăgărășan in the style of Van Gogh, the Danube Delta in the style of Claude Monet, the wooden churches of Maramureș in the style of Wassily Kandinsky , the fortified church in Bazna in the style of Van Gogh, Romanian national traditions in the style of Wassily Kandinsky.

A step forward in the evolution of revolutionary art, this “Infinity Room” adds a modern and vibrant touch to the exhibition devoted to the great masters of art.

Visiting hours are from Monday to Friday between 12:00 and 20:00 and on Saturday and Sunday between 10:00 and 20:00. On weekends, there will be workshops for children, the program of these events will be available on www.events.ro and www.more.com.
